Customizing issue tracker ticket titles

We have previously made it possible to add a prefix to the title of any ticket that TestLodge raises in an issue tracker.

Based on continued user feedback, we’re pleased to announce that it is now possible to make use of additional parameters within this prefix, allowing users to either include the test case number or data from custom fields.

This new setting can be customized easily for each TestLodge project.

To set up a prefix, please follow these short steps:

Make sure you have one of our issue tracker integrations already set up.
Edit a project and associate this integration with the TestLodge project.
Choose ‘issue tracker’ from the sub-menu on the same edit project screen.
From here, you will see a text field allowing you to add a prefix to any tickets raised and a list of available parameters.

Our issue tracker integrations are a great time-saving feature, and we’re pleased to say that this update is now available for all our integrations.

Continued improvements to our Import

Following the successful roll-out of our improved import earlier this year, we're pleased to announce that a further update has been released.

This update focuses on UI improvements to the overlay that guides you into matching your data to columns and making sure that the import runs as smoothly as possible.

In conjunction with our existing Google test case import, we are confident it will further improve your experience in migrating to using TestLodge.

Completion of changes to file uploads

We're pleased to announce that we have completed all updates to our file upload functionality across the tool, and these changes have been made available to all accounts to use.

To summarize the changes, you will now benefit from:

A brand new file upload widget.
The ability to upload many different file types.
The ability to upload multiple files at one time.
The ability to drag and drop your files into our new upload widget.
The ability to upload files directly from a url.

File uploads are a critical part of TestLodge, and these changes to both uploads and the user interface will further enhance the way you use TestLodge.

Improved File Uploading for Requirements

We are pleased to announce our latest improvement, following regular feedback from our existing users, which we are always grateful for.

Historically, our file upload functionality has only let users select one file at a time and with restrictions on the file types allowed. This update introduces a new file upload widget with many improvements to support your productivity further.

As file uploads are a critical part of the tool, we made the decision to roll out this improvement in stages. Therefore, it is only available for requirements at present.

We will monitor the usage, gather comments and refine this latest change. If feedback is supportive, we intend to enable this for other areas of the tool that allow files to be uploaded.

Update: We are pleased to announce that this same improvement has now been rolled out to test cases.

Recent Improvements to TestLodge

Over the past 6 months, we’ve been busy working on some significant improvements. Some have already been released, and some are still in development.

We always listen to feedback from existing users and making refinements to the tool. More often than not, these very useful improvements are small so don’t get a mention.

So to bring everyone up to date, here’s a list of just a few changes that we have made in recent months.

Application improvements

Support for more character sets - We’ve performed a large database upgrade which now means we support an even wider range of character sets.
Knowledge base links more accessible - We’ve made it easier for you and team members to find the help you need, whether from our knowledge base, video tutorials or by contacting us directly.
Application performance - We are always very proud of TestLodge’s uptime. This is achieved by a lot of work that is rarely mentioned. Maintaining the stack and performing upgrades is a continuous effort, and the past few months have been no exception. We have performed various upgrades and improvements that have gone very well, which will only help us continue to improve the speed and performance of the site.

API improvements

New bulk results API endpoint - Our main focus at TestLdoge is manual testing, and this is not changing. However, we have a growing number of companies who wish to store their automated test results with their manual tests. This can now be achieved even easier thanks to a new API endpoint that allows you to send over your results in bulk, as opposed to one at a time.

Issue tracker integrations

We’ve continued to improve and optimize our issue tracker integrations and the following changes have recently been made.

ClickUp

We now have support for accounts that make use of ClickUp custom IDs.

Axosoft

With their changes to authentication, we’ve continued to maintain our integration and we are pleased to say that we now support their latest authentication methods.

Shortcut

Depreciating Shortcut projects - We have updated the integration to remove the ability to set a project ID. Instead, we provide the option for a user to select a Shortcut workflow.
Updated options - You can now select an Epic directly from TestLodge where you can attach a story.
Remember your previous selections - Have TestLodge remember your option selection (such as assigned user, Epic etc.), and set them as defaults for any future stories that are raised within the given test run.

Our efforts to improve TestLodge are continuous and we’d like to thank everyone who gets in touch with us and takes the time to provide feedback.

New release: Improved Import for Test Cases and Requirements

After signing up to use TestLodge, you may want to import some of your existing content, such as test cases that you may have maintained in spreadsheets manually, or maybe you are migrating from other software.

For Google users, migrating content to TestLodge has always been straightforward and available. However, many users cannot access Google spreadsheets due to their company’s policies.

For this reason, we are trialing a new import so you can upload your data straight from CSV, TSV, and XLSX files directly to TestLodge. This new import is available for requirements and test cases.

To get started, select the import option for the requirement document/test suite where you wish to import the data. From there, TestLodge will guide you on how to upload your content.

This new feature is available to all users on our latest plan set. In conjunction with our existing Google import, we hope this new addition will make things easier for you to migrate over to using TestLodge.

New feature - Accepting payments by PayPal

The facility to add and store multiple payment methods was recently introduced. Now, we are pleased to announce another new way to pay.

You can now pay for TestLodge monthly subscriptions through PayPal.

To switch to PayPal payments, log in as an account holder, select 'Payment details' from your account, and choose to add a new payment method.

If, at some point, your primary method fails, this new method of payment can also work as a backup. The addition of this new way to pay means your TestLodge subscription can now be paid by card, ACH, and PayPal, providing extra flexibility for anyone who prefers an alternative to paying by card.

TestLodge joins worldwide tree planting drive to support the environment

TestLodge now contributes monthly towards tree planting in response to the climate crisis. Our partners planting the trees on our behalf are the reputable UK, based environmental organization, Ecologi.

Across the business world, TestLodge is far from being unique in choosing to support tree planting - but that’s the whole point! As a way of helping the environment by compensating for our collective Co2 footprints, tree planting is a worldwide and necessary project for the health of the planet at this critical time.

In choosing our tree-planting partner, we wanted to be certain that our monthly donation, based on an estimate of the Co2 our staff and regular contractors produce in a working day, would convert into actual tree planting in official projects. We selected Ecologi because we liked the transparency of their process. All who join Ecologi, whether businesses, individuals, families - or pets, can watch their forests expand. Take a look at our forest and the renewable energy projects Ecologi also invests in on our behalf: TestLodge Tree Planting.

TestLodge is facilitating tree planting for the good of our children and all of us because trees are essential allies in the fight against climate change. Along with oceans, trees are the lungs of the world, and planting millions of young trees not only helps with the absorption of Co2, which is then locked up in the trees and surrounding soil for generations, but tree leaf photosynthesis releases fresh oxygen into the air as a byproduct of absorbing all that Co2. It’s invigorating to walk in forests, yes? It’s all that new oxygen!

The environment is in a perilous state, and each of us needs to take personal steps to help reverse the damage caused by industrialization. Using the car less and recycling more are positive contributions, as is world tree planting, in which TestLodge is now happy to be involved.

Improvements to Payment Methods

It can be so annoying when your bank blocks a regular payment for no good reason. We know banks are security-minded, but when a block happens to you, it can be frustrating!

We set out to help TestLodge users have one less thing to think about, so we have now introduced the wallet concept to help prevent those occasional problems.

Like most online businesses, we offer payment by card to our users and have always worked with the leading payment and subscription companies to make this possible. However, now with the new wallet concept, you have the facility to store a backup payment method in case a problem arises with your Primary way to pay.

The wallet lets you store multiple different payment methods at one time. You can set a primary payment method and, if you prefer, a backup payment method that will help you avoid unexpected breaks in service. This will be useful for anyone who finds their bank often declines transactions for no reason and should want to provide an alternative payment method for when this happens.

In addition to these improvements, we can now accept monthly payments via ACH bank transfers for users in the USA.

To switch over to ACH payments, just log in as an account holder, select 'Payment details' from your account and choose to add a new payment method. This way of paying can also be used as a backup method if your primary is declined.

With this new wallet facility, we have set the groundwork to continue improving payments going forward and offer alternative payment methods.

Introducing our GitLab integration

Our GitLab integration is the latest addition to our library of issue tracking tools that we have support for and is immediately available for use by all users.

Being a common tool for Git and Devops, GitLab offers a variety of tools to help teams through the various stages of development, from planning to production. One of these is issue/defect management, which is the area where our integration supports.
